IES Södertälje Climate Detectives

As our Elective at IES Södertälje ended for this term, seven students from the Science Club submitted successfully their research plan for the first phase of the Climate Detectives competition, organised by the European Space Agency (ESA).

Climate Detectives is an ESA school project for students between 8 and 15 years old. Students are challenged to 'make a difference' in understanding and protecting Earth's climate by identifying a climate problem, observing their local environment and investigating it as 'Climate Detectives'.

IES Södertälje is one of the first schools from Sweden which are participating in this project. During our next phase in January, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with climate scientists and physicists from ESA, in order to develop and finish their research on Climate Change in Sweden.

The best projects will have the opportunity to travel to ESRIN, ESA’s Centre for Earth Observation (EO) in Frascati, Italy. Students will visit the Φ-Experience and will have the opportunity to meet EO experts. The Φ-Experience is an interactive exhibition that presents exciting insights into Earth observation, Earth science data and research around these topics for the general public.
